Nactation: A compact notation system created by Nack Ballard. I don't use it all that often, because it can get complex. However, the basics are simple, and I find them helpful when discussing the first few moves of the game. I generally stick to the symbols below, which are covered in the first couple of sections of Nack's Nactation Tutorial.
S = splitOpening: The first move of the game
Z= reverse split
$ = slot
R = run
P = point
D = down
U = up
Op: Opponent
PR: Extreme Gammon's Performance Rating
PWC: Project World Class
Reply: The second move of the game
Session Play (SP): Traditionally called money games and, more recently, unlimited games. I prefer the term session play (or session games). In session play, each game is distinct and independent of the games that come before and after it (as opposed to match play, where strategy can change based on the match score). The cube is used and both gammons and backgammons count. Unless otherwise noted, the Jacoby rule is not in effect.
